With deep regret I have to announce the passing of Ethel Haddon (daughter of Fred and Alice Guest, and my nanna). Ethel passed away on Saturday 29th July 2006 at St. Johns Hospice in Doncaster, after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Derbyshire in 1924, but raised in Rossington. She married (Al)Bert Haddon, and had two children, Reg Haddon and Brenda Shaw. After living in Cantley, Goole, and many happy years in Hornsea, Ethel spent her last years back in Rossington. She is now at peace with her immediate family, Bert, Reg and Brenda who all sadly passed on before here over the last six years – now finally they can all be together again. She leaves son-in-law Geoff, Daughter-in-law Val, grandchildren, Lee, Tracey, and Scott, and several great-grandchildren. She will be missed.

Hi Frank Spencer, When you write about going to Armthorpe for your mine training it reminded me of my days spent there, also the two days each week at the Doncaster Technical College round St.George s gate for the academics of mining etc; I have been trying to remember the names of the instructors at Armthorpe, there were two in general,a tall young chap,(he took us for exercise on the surface, i.e. mostly football), also an older gent who did most of the underground training. They were both pretty good guys, I was rather sorry when training ended... Harold Jarvis lived across from you on Streatfield , that is if I have the right one.... Do you remember Colin Yates, Johnny Gardner, The McCague s , Billy Spinks, Mary Dauncey, Charlie, Linda,& Doreen Burton, Sheila Barker, Joey Howe, Mark McLaughlan, Joan Moss (Lee), Ann Derbyshire, to name a few in our old neighbourhood? ....If you remember others I would be pleased if you would jot them down, I m trying to remember as many folks as possible from the village. from a hot & sticky Ontario, goodnight all, keep smiling..........Cyril Hart
